What We Believe
1) WE BELIEVE in God, creator of all life, the creator of mankind, the provider, sustainer, the keeper, who is all wise, all holy, all powerful, all loving, who eternally makes Himself known as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (See Gen. 1:1; Matt. 28:19, 20; Mark 12:29; John 1:1, 14; II Cor. 13:14).
2) WE BELIEVE the Bible to be the Holy word of God, literally given to man by God to be a final authority in faith and life. (See I Cor. 2:13; 10:11; II Tim. 3:16, 17; II Pet. 1:21).
3) WE BELIEVE in Jesus Christ, the only Savior and Lord of all life. We believe He is the only begotten Son of God, and the eternal Word of God made flesh. We believe He was conceived in the womb of Mary by the powers of the Holy Ghost, and that He is truly God and truly man. (See John 1:1, 2, 14, 18; 3:16; Luke 1:30-35; Phil. 2:5-8).
4) WE BELIEVE that man in his natural state is a sinner - that is, his life is lived in rebellion to God's Holy will. Thus the natural state of man is spiritual death. We believe that man needs to be born again through the grace of God given in Jesus Christ. We, therefore, believe that everyone who receives the Lord Jesus Christ by faith as Savior and Lord of his life will be born again by the Holy Spirit and will enter into immediate fellowship with God. (John 3:3-8, 16; 5:24; Romans 10:9, 10; 8:16; Acts 16:31).
5) WE BELIEVE in the ministry of the Holy Spirit, being the Third Person of the Godhead. We believe He alone quickens the human heart from the curse of sin, regenerates, indwells, baptizes, seals and sets the believer apart to live a holy life. He is the teacher of God's Word, the power in every true sermon, and the source of victory in the believers' daily life. (See John 16:7-11; 14:17; I Cor. 3:16; 6:19; Eph. 1:13; 4:30; I Pet. 1:11; Romans 8:2, 4, 9, 12, 14).
6) WE BELIEVE in the Church, the Mystical Body of Christ, comprised solely of those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior, been baptized into His spirit, and sealed by His Saving Blood, to worship Him, to witness of Him, to seek to win others to Him, so that all may live in fellowship with Him to the Glory and the Honor of God. (See Matt. 16:15-18; Rev. 1:5; Tit. 3:5, 12; Zeph. 1:13, 14; Luke 24:47).
7) WE BELIEVE that Christ instituted the Ordinances of Baptism and the Lord's Supper, to be observed in reverence, remembrance, respect, and spiritual reward, until He comes. (See Matt. 28:19, 20; Acts 10:47; 19:15; Luke 22:19, 20; I Cor. 11:23-26).
8) WE BELIEVE in Heaven and Hell, and in the eternal security of everlasting blessedness of the saved lived in the kingdom of God, and the eternal conscious punishment of the lost, lived outside the presence of God, and the kingdom of God, the plan of salvation has ultimately been rejected. (See John 5:24; 10:28, 29; 13:1; 17:11; 14:16; Rom. 8:28-39; Heb. 7:25; I Pet. 1:5; Jude 24; Matt. 25:41; Luke 16:19-31; Rev. 20:11-15).
9) WE BELIEVE there is a personal devil, a being of evil powers and great cunning, "the prince of the power of the air". We believe his power is great, but the power of our God is greater still! We believe the just have victory over him through the victorious life of Jesus Christ and that he will ultimately be cast into the lake of fire and brimstone and will be tormented forever! (See Job 1:6, 7; Ezek. 28:11-19; Is. 14:12, 17; Matt. 4:11-17; Eph. 2:2; II Cor. 4:4; Rev. 20:10-15).
The History of Philippian Community Church of North Carolina
Over twenty years ago, God changed the heart of a man named Eric L. Ellis so he could use him as His servant. During those twenty plus years, God nurtured, anointed, and raised Eric Ellis under the leadership of the late Bishop Lawrence C. Callahan, founder of Philippian Community Church of Jacksonville, FL.
In 1997, God chose Minister Ellis for a higher calling, a call to become a shepherd to a chosen people in Raleigh, NC. In April 1999, Pastor Ellis answered that call as he stepped out on faith, realizing obedience is better than sacrifice, and moved to the Raleigh, NC area. Philippian Community Church of North Carolina began that same month in the Chavis Heights Community Center, located on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, until the move to its former location, 916 Rock Quarry Road in June 2001. In August 2008, Philippian Community Church of North Carolina moved to its new location at 6904 Poole Road.
Philippian Community Church has grown over the last three years with strong men and women whose lives have been empowered and enriched by the teaching of Gods Holy and Written Word. Empowering and enriching peoples lives through Gods Word is just the beginning of our mission, we want to equip people with the knowledge and understanding of being more than an overcomer and a people that produce good works through their faith in God.
Philippian Community Church of North Carolina is on the move for the building up of God's Kingdom, One Soul At A Time!
Bishop Lawrence C. Callahan Sr. - 1945 - 2001
Founder of Philippian Community Church of Jacksonville, FL.
Lawrence C. Callahan, Sr. was born in the City of Palatka, FL. At the age of ten, the eldest of the Callahan children was killed and his mother decided that it was time to leave Palatka and move to Jacksonville. This move would later prove to be part of God’s providential plan for Lawrence Callahan’s life; though at the time, he despised it. After moving to the new city, he attended the local schools, graduated from college, married and started a family.
After completing high school, he later attended Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Education. As a college student, he met Delores Douglas. On September 22, 1967, they were united in holy matrimony and later gave birth to two sons, Lawrence Charles, Jr. and Carlos Troy.
While watching the Ernest Angsley Hour on Sunday, February 29, 1976, Lawrence C. Callahan, Sr. received Christ. Immediately following his conversion, the Lord sent him back to his family’s church, Faust Temple COGIC where he was called to the ministry and preached his trial sermon May 21, 1976.
In just three short years, he was led by the Holy Spirit to start a church. The church officially began on November 25, 1979, at 8929 Yeoman Drive with Minister Virgil Jones, Sr. and a group of teenagers.
The church quickly outgrew the Callahan residence. Bishop Callahan noticed a structure on Clyde Drive, and as an act of faith, laid hands on the building, praying that it would one day house Philippian Community Church. In March 1980, the funds were raised to secure the building. Very shortly thereafter, Bishop Callahan left his job at Maxwell House-General Foods and devoted himself to full time ministry. The ministry was abundantly blessed and grew in God’s favor. In September, 1980, Delores Callahan accepted Christ and joined her husband in ministry.
The ministry prospered with the membership growing rapidly and souls being touched. Bishop Callahan presented plans to build a 1200 seat facility. This vision was manifested on February 16, 1986, when the church left Clyde Drive and relocated to 7578 New Kings Road. It was at this time that the ministry continued its growth and began to reach the world via radio, television, print and evangelism.
Bishop Callahan orchestrated and oversaw the building of the Upper Room Prayer Tower, state-of-the-art multi-purpose facility, bookstore and an almost 8,000-square foot sanctuary expansion. He parlayed his experiences into 5 books and six musical recordings.
On January 16, 2001, it was the Lord’s good pleasure to take from this life and welcome into His glorious presence Bishop Lawrence C. Callahan, Sr.
Dr. Eric L. Ellis is the Founder and Pastor of Philippian Community Church (PCC) of NC in Raleigh, North Carolina. His God-given mission is to empower and enrich the lives of others by going into the world and teaching the Word of God, line-by-line, and precept-by-precept.
A native of Jacksonville, Florida reared by his great-grandparents, Dr. Ellis accepted Jesus Christ at an early age. However, he came to know the fullness of the Holy Spirit and the true life-changing power of the Word of God when he joined Philippian Community Church (PCC) of Jacksonville, Florida in 1983, under the leadership of the late Bishop Lawrence C. Callahan. Under Bishop Callahan's watchful eye, he grew in Christ as he feasted on the Word he received while faithfully attending multiple weekly services. Always eager to share what he's learned, he became active in Children's Ministry, taught Adult Sunday School, participated in the Sick and Shut-In Ministry, and served on the Usher Board. But, the ministry that was closest to Dr. Ellis' heart while serving at PCC of Jacksonville was the Prison Ministry where he served for 13 years, teaching redemption and victory through Jesus to countless inmates.
In 1999 the LORD told Minister Ellis that the time had come for him to leave the comfort of his Jacksonville, Florida existence because there was much work to be done in Raleigh, North Carolina. At first reluctant to hearken unto the voice of the LORD because he knew nothing about Raleigh; he sought godly counsel from Bishop Callahan, who provided confirmation and gave his blessing. Making the difficult decision to leave his family behind to follow Jesus, he took the leap of faith and drove to Raleigh alone. Upon arrival, Philippian Community Church of NC was birthed, and held its first worship service at Chavis Heights Community Center where Pastor Ellis preached to several empty chairs, for there were no attendees. Choosing to stand on the Word God had given him, he pressed on and continued to preach week after week until eventually the chairs began to be filled, and as souls were saved word spread about the ministry. His family soon joined him in Raleigh, where the LORD has rewarded him greatly for his obedience and faithfulness. Over the years as the ministry grew, the church moved from the community center to a nearby store-front location, then to its current edifice constructed in 2008 on 8 acres of land. A community-minded ministry, PCC of NC offers after-school tutoring for grades K-12, computer training, a food and clothing bank, and provides missions to Africa. Dr. Ellis has ordained several ministers, and is Overseer of several sister churches birthed out of PCC of NC. Currently, PCC of NC's worship services can be seen via 2 weekly television broadcasts; and all worship services are streamed live via internet on the church's website, www.pccofnc.org.
A former manager in the financial services industry, Dr. Ellis attended Florida Community College, Southern Illinois University, and Philippian Institute of Biblical Studies. He received a Masters degree in Biblical Studies and a Doctorate of Theology from North Carolina College of Theology. A much sought-after speaker and author of several books; he is well-known and respected for his no holds barred approach to delivering the Word of God. He teaches that holiness is not an option, but a requirement, and his messages transcend culture, race, and denomination. His counsel on marital transformation the godly way has been instrumental in the restoration of many marriages that were formerly on the brink of divorce. Dr. Ellis and his wife, Lady Beverly J. Ellis, have been married for more than 25 years and are the parents of three children, Timothy, Erica, and Victoria. He serves under the leadership of Bishop Virgil C. Jones, Sr., current Pastor of Philippian Community Church of Jacksonville, Florida.

Women's Ministry:
The Womens Ministry of Philippian Community Church of North Carolina is grounded in and directed by God in Prayer, Unity, Respect, Persistence, Obedience, Spirit and Encouragement in our desire to serve God and the needs of women. Our vision and mission is the same as the Church. Our desire and passion is to teach, prepare and encourage women to seek and accomplish the will of God for their lives.
Ministers Training:
Aimed at equipping the men and women of God who are called to the office of minister to go out and spread the good news of Jesus Christ.
Witnessing Team:
Winning souls for Jesus Christ requires training and the witnessing team provides just that. By going in the hedges and highways with fellow believers, we will win the lost at any cost.
Dance Ministry:
Teaches youth and young adults how to use the art of dance as a form of worship and praise.
Finance Ministry:
Assists you in being a good steward over your finances according to God's Word.
Computer Training/Technology Ministry:
Aimed at providing up-to-date familiarisation and training in the use of computers and other computer-related technologies. The community will benefit from a membership of technology-literate people.
Young Adult Ministry:
Called Y.A.M. for short, this collection of young people, ages 18 to 30, pursue the Word with vigor and fresh ideas. By providing a place for young people to not only hang out and have fun, but learn more about Jesus and how His teachings can be applied to everyday life, the Y.A.M.s are taking radical steps to win more souls for Christ.
Youth Ministry
Children ages 3 to 17 are encouraged to learn more about Jesus and taught how to live holy at a young age. These foundational teachings are essential to leading a healthy, Christ-centered life once they have matured into young adults.
